Veg Keema Curry is a vegetarian recipe which is made with Soya Granules and peas which are cooked in spicy onion, ginger, garlic tomato based gravy and spiced with garam masala powder and other Indian spices. Sharing healthy, yummy, protein rich recipe with a stepwise pictorial guide.

In today's preparation onion is used in minced form, but to saute onion is this form is a little bit difficult task and requires good execution, so proceed this step on slow to medium heat and this procedure also needs patience as takes longer to cook compared to roughly chop onions.

Let's get started

☑ Recipe details

⚫Cuisine - Indian
⚫Type - Main course
⚫Preparation time 10-15 min
⚫Cooking time 25-30 min
⚫Soya granules soak time 15-20 min

☑ Ingredients required

⚫200 grams soya granules
⚫50 grams peas
⚫4-5 medium size onions
⚫3-4 medium size tomatoes
⚫3-4 green chillies
⚫3-4 garlic cloves
⚫1 small piece ginger
⚫3 tsp coriander powder
⚫2-3 tsp red chili powder
⚫1 tsp turmeric powder
⚫Salt to taste
⚫2-3 tbsp cooking oil
⚫2tsp garam masala powder

☑ Method

✔Step 1 Mise en place

◾Soya granules - soaked in hot milk or hot water for 15-20 min and then drain and press the soya granules between your hands to squeeze out any water/milk and hold it aside until called for.

◾Onion - peeled - roughly chopped and then minced.

◾Tomatoes - pureed

◾Ginger, garlic and green chillies - Make a coarse paste

✔Step 2 Cooking time

◾Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add minced onions and saute until golden brownish.

◾Add tomato puree and cook until oil leaves the sides.

◾Add ginger, garlic and green chilly paste and cook for 2-3 minutes.

◾Add soya granules and peas and cook again for 2-3 minutes.

◾Add all the dry ingredients i.e. coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, red chilly powder and salt to taste. Mix it very well.

◾Add water, cover the cooker with lid and allow 3-4 whistles.

◾Our Keema curry is ready to dish out. Serve hot with steamed rice, naan or with bread slices or Pav.

    1. Yes, if you don't have soya granules, and want to go ahead with chunks.. So first pulse them in your mixer grinder jar for 8-10 seconds.. as we don't want powdered chunks and then follow soaking process.

    9. Wow, Addition of Mutton Masala sounds great... My family prefers less spicy food so i normally add kashmiri red chilly powder just to give beautiful color and less spicy compared to normal red chilly ppwder... Addition of green chilies is actually great thought..👌👍👍

    1. This recipe was religiously cooked in our house in school days.. Mom used to add both forms of soya in this vegetable... i.e granules as well as chunks... I believe this is best source of protein for vegetarian people.. Thank you so much dear.
